KFAS & Huawei Sign a MoU to Start Implementing the Talent Enhancement Programs

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and Huawei Technologies Kuwait have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to start implementing a set of talent enhancement programs that aim at providing the upcoming generation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) leaders in Kuwait with the required skills to excel in various fields.

The signing of the MoU comes in line with the Foundation’s mission to stimulate the advancement of science and technology, as well as the development of scientific research and innovation for the benefit of society and research in Kuwait, and Huawei’s goal to build a healthy ICT talent ecosystem with enhanced digital capabilities.

The memorandum also aims to empower students, as well as private and public sector employees, to stimulate growth into key industries and sectors, benefiting Kuwait with an enhanced infrastructure and unsurpassed connectivity to ensure a brighter economic future.

“KFAS has sought to harness the potential of science, technology and innovation in Kuwait for the last four decades and our new partnership with Huawei Technologies Kuwait will bridge the gap between academic knowledge and hands-on experience in order to create a cohesive society in which everyone benefits equally,” said Dr. Adnan A. Shihab Eldin, Director General of KFAS.

“The programs under the MoU aim to nurture aspiring ICT professionals with skills related to the latest technological developments such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Cloud Computing” he added.

“Middle East’s ICT industry is growing at a phenomenal rate, even with the disruptions caused by COVID-19”, said Mr. Charles Yang, President of Huawei Middle East.

“While investment in ICT infrastructure is essential at this stage, so is investment in developing talent to maintain and realize the region’s digital agenda. Huawei’s CSR efforts have focused on fostering the talent ecosystem in the Middle East in an effort to build a well-qualified workforce that possess the right knowledge and understanding to contribute to ICT development, while bridging the digital divide” he added.

On his part Mr. Rico Lin, CEO of Huawei Technologies Kuwait said the signing of this MoU is in line with Huawei’s broader commitment to the country’s mission to boost the national ICT competitiveness and contribute to the advancement of the local communities”.

He expressed his happiness that KFAS has become a strategic partner of Huawei in its contribution to building a generation of forward-thinking local ICT professionals, making the vision of transforming Kuwait into a digitized country possible as part of the Kuwait Vision 2035”.

KFAS and Huawei have implemented during the past months a successful season of Huawei’s flagship CSR program, “Seeds for the Future,” through which around 48 Kuwaiti students and fresh graduates from various universities in Kuwait, and mainly of engineering and ICT backgrounds, participated in the online training.

The results of this training, as well as highlights from past efforts and experiences in ICT talent development in Kuwait, has been conveyed in the ICT talent Development 2020 Whitepaper, being jointly released by KFAS and Huawei.
